Birthdays are different when you're an adult because they are so often scattered across time. As a kid, everything's concentrated into one big day. All your friends come over, you play games and do something fun, you open presents and everybody sings. When you're out on your own, however, it's seeds to the wind, especially if you live faraway from family and friends. Cards come in the mail here and there, people want to give you presents when you both are together, which may be months early or late, and activities are worked in around the weekly schedule. The strength of the birth day is diffused.
But how can I complain? It's my birthday!

Hey, Happy Birthday!
Mine is tomorrow. I totally forgot. (Another sign you're getting old.)
:)
Happy belated birthday. Hope you had a great day.
