Toilet culture

Grandfather Frankenstein likes to pee in this stall.

When Americans say 'the bathroom,' British people usually think of a room with a bathtub in it. For them it's more often the toilet or the loo. Changing the habit has taken me months. I was patting myself on the back for thinking ahead about it at a restaurant Saturday night, until this conversation with the waiter.

Me: Could you tell me where to find the loo?

Him: The what?

Me: The loo.

Him: The what?

Me: The loo.

Him: (pause) Are you French?
