It towers just above Multnomah Falls in the Columbia River Gorge, and from its lookout point you can see five volcanic peaks: Mount Jefferson, Mount Hood, Mount Adams, Mount St. Helens, and Mount Rainier. The day was mostly clear and the sun was intense, though the more distant mountains were nestled in clouds. The view was incredible indeed, but beyond that, it was fulfilling to absorb the pace and scope of nature for an afternoon as the summer solstice approaches.
