Portland Platitudes

Installment one of things Portlanders love to say about their city: Nobody here carries an umbrella. When you see someone on the street with one, they're an outsider.

This is not true of course. People from Portland do in fact carry umbrellas, and it is my opinion that they tell newcomers otherwise as a sort of hazing process. It's a test to judge the depth of their desire to live here, and ultimately gauge their worth as a citizen. See the wet shivering person with the flat hair? They're not from around here.

(On topic, I get an occasional question about the name of my blog. What does umbrelly mean? These inquistors are overly literal and should be shot. One ounze of creativity would be adequate for understanding.)
