On the radio, they specifically said, "Interstate 84 is closed going east out of Portland," but for some reason I thought they weren't talking to me. Even when I saw a big sign over the freeway, "Interstate 84 Eastbound closed 25 miles ahead," it still didn't register in my brain that this would hinder my route to Hood River.
I was 20 miles east of the outer suburbs before I realized that I would not be able to drive on this road, and finally turned around to drive all the way back to Portland because the only other options were 1: across the river, 2: around the mountain. My excuse? Mixed media causing sensory overload. Too many warnings, advertisements, newsflashes. Eventually you have to tune it out, even when it happens to apply to you.

That is hillarious.
I got stuck in traffic today in Sellwood, of all places. I thought I'd "save time" by going over the Sellwood bridge instead of downtown and over the Morrison.
Lesson: there's just no avoiding traffic around here in the afternoons.
