Screw me not

A new epiphany for me in the past few weeks. You are all going to say, 'how have you not seen this before?' and I will tell you: becuase I'm naive and I have an inferiority complex.

I always thought that if I showed up on time, got my work done and didn't bother anyone, I would have done enough to move my career along. And if I paid my bills in full and on time, that would be enough to have good credit.

But now I see... it is not enough. Work and money do not respond to the passive. If I just go along and do my thing, eventually something will break down. It's a high-maintenance system. A system that must be controlled and manipulated, two notions that to me have always held negative connotations.

Yet only in understanding those ideas and how they might be used in a positive way, and therefore harnessing my personal power, can I really be at the helm of my own course.

(No: I didn't read that in a self-help book.)

This sounds like something from 'The Godfather'

You know what I mean? You must!
