Have you ever noticed how long it takes you to recover from a disturbance in your immediate environment? When you're concentrating on a project and someone comes into the room excitedly shouting your name, how many minutes go by before you are able to re-focus? If you are in a thoughtful reverie walking down the street and you trip over some obstacle, how much time passes before your peaceful mind frame returns?
I think about this often because I'm highly sensitive. Often such disturbances seem to penetrate my whole being and I can be distracted for the rest of the day. So I wonder if it the same for other people?

No matter where I walk, I have my iPod on. If it's shopping, walking to class, or walking to the bar. If I trip over anything, if it be a crack in the sidewalk, a box of books, or a homeless man asking me for BART money, I can always rebound because my music is on. I don't miss a step. Laugh a little and continue with my groove. Music can do wonderous things.
