Rata-tata

After seeing Ratatouille three times, we have finally decided to make the recipe at home. The fantastic thing about this dish is the sensory pleasure to be gained from chopping. Tomatoes, eggplant, zucchini, onions, garlic, bell peppers- it's a slicing and dicing delight.

To be honest, that's the extent of my cooking capacity. It may make me sound like a preschooler, but I like the pretty shapes I can make out veggies. So any recipe that allows me to wield a knife more often is a recipe worthy of my love, no matter what the food tastes like in the end.

I do admire the talent involved in mastering the oven and stove though, it's a talent that evades me. In fact, it's absolutely fortuitous that I have a wonderful man in my life who's good at it, because otherwise I'd be eating raw vegetables for every meal. Lovely-shaped vegetables, but uncooked nonetheless.

You know what sucks? Having a brother who's a chef and he neither cooks at home or brings home extras from work. But it's a good thing, kinda... my culinary skills are improving. :)

Ha! That's unkind of your brother to withhold his talents. My bro is a chef too.

I've read Love in the time of Cholera and the secret life of bees. GOOD books.

I really enjoyed the Into the Wilderness series. It's historical fiction about a family in the late 1700's out on the frontier. Easy reading and interesting. I'm reading Middlesex right now, but struggling with it. I'll have to go look at my collection and find some easy fun beach reads. I'll get back to ya. :)
